Devastation

Broken
a petal-less flower
on a fractured stem
broken
by a snow
that never should have come.
stillness
no wind
or motion
or breath
stillness
that doesn’t look like sleep
but death
silence
but with that
ringing sound
no one else hears
and i ask
“do you hear that?”
and they do not.
fullness
where it doesn’t belong
like a body
full of water
where the blood should be.
emptiness too
like a swimming pool
that is dry
brown leaves sit inside
on peeling artificial blue
paint.
Devastation.

Father’s Day 2013
